Beginning Wednesday June 13th, independent record label Realize Records, in conjunction with Premier Centre for the Arts and Middletown Main Street will begin their search to find artists to land performance slots in front of thousands at this year’s Music on Main event in Downtown Middletown along with a opening slot on a Realize Record’s touring artist’s performance. Winners will also receive a bundle of wellness classes, tickets to shows at PCA and consultation with Record Label executives and producers. All the events are free, open to the public and acts are not required to enter the contest to perform at the events. The nine scheduled events will all offer Food, drinks, wine and beer for purchase. Proceeds from all of the events will be donated to Middletown Main Street. The non-profit volunteer driven organization is dedicated to the revitalization of our downtown historic district.
The open mic, previously held at Stoney’s in Wilmington is famous for being a catalyst to launching artist’s careers. Realize Records artist singer/songwriter John McManus and Sirius/XM regular comedienne Janice Kamalski were both signed as a result of contests held at the open mic.
Over the period of 9 weeks during this summer, open mic performers will be judged by label representatives on artistic merit, originality, craft, professionalism, and market potential. Interested acts can enter by filling out an official entry form and performing at one of the events. “There is no limit to how many nights you can perform. The more chances the reps get to see you and your diversity the better. The open mic is in its seventh year and has a loyal following of artists that also utilize the events as a platform to test new material and launch their careers so there is always great talent for the audience.” says host Paul Lewis.
Each month winners will be chosen to move on to the finals in August. The contest is free to enter and open to all ages. There is no cover charge at the door. Michel Grey, CEO of the label states, “The music industry is rapidly changing, and as a company we are looking for artists that have the talent and overall package to gain recognition in an already saturated market.”
All interested artists, singers, spoken word performers and comedians should come early to sign up. All contestants will need to fill out an official entry form. Artists are not required to enter the contest to perform at the open mic. Each open mic starts at 7:00PM and will end at 11:00PM. The events are scheduled to take place on the following dates: June 13th, 20th, 27th, July 11th, 18th & 25th, and August 1st, 8th and 15th. Premier Centre for the Arts is located downtown at 27 Anderson Street Middletown, DE.
